THE
MIGHTY MEKONG -
A LIFELINE
The
mighty Mekong divides into nine tributaries to meet the sea which the Vietnamese
call Cuu Long, or “the Nine Dragons”. In the Delta all life depends on the
river and to understand Mekong life you must float gently down its slow,
shimmering waterways.
Not
only is the river the source of all nourishment it also serves as the market
place. In Can Tho’s floating market watch trade in the Delta’s rich rice and
fish stocks, and the lush fruit and vegetables unique to the area.
The
pace of life remains slow in the Delta and the daily routine has changed little
in centuries. Drift down the small canals modern life with all its worries will

MEKONG ONE DAY TRIP (CaiBe)
If
you have only one day and you need a Mekong river life
outlook. CaiBe is a good choice.
Leave
early at 07:30 am, head south to Cai Be. On arrival at 10.00 , boarding a
boat for a journey through the town’s floating market. See how river life goes
on, trading between merchant ships and local farmers. We walk
through the village streets and watch locals making manioc chips. Cruise through the secluded canals where
we stop at an ancient house of the area to enjoy seasonal fruits / lunch before
our boat takes us to the Mighty Mekong (~ 1km wide), cruise to other island
for walking, visiting fruit orchards. Cruise through natural waterways
to CaiBe where our bus pick up for return. Back in Saigon around 18.00.

MEKONG TWO-DAY TRIP
Get
close to the real culture of the Mekong Delta.
Day 1: SaiGon - CaiBe - CanTho.
Departing
Saigon at 0800 head south to Cai Be. On arrival at 10.30 , boarding a boat for
a journey through the town’s floating market. See how river life goes on,
trading between merchant ships and local farmers. Cruise through a secluded canals and
over the Mighty Mekong to island where we stop to enjoy seasonal fruits before
our boat takes us to VinhLong where we get back on the bus for our trip to
CanTho to overnight.
Day 2: CanTho - SaiGon
An early start for a boat trip to Cai Rang floating
markets, then we have a long distance cruise & walk on a quiet
country road to take in the magnificent scenery and get close to the locals as
they go about their daily routine. We try a xe loi, the local colonial-era cab
pulled by motorbike, on a country road. In the afternoon we head back to
Saigon. Back in Saigon around 18:00. End of tour.

Day 1: SaiGon - MyTho - CaiBe (L,D)
Departing
Saigon at 07:30 head south to MyTho. On arrival at 09:30, boarding our
"Southen Peace" boat for
a journey to island in BenTre. We stop for a walk, visit to a farmer house, see how life goes on
here, enjoy seasonal fruits. Take a sampan paddling cruise on small
waterways.., back to our boat. Then we cruise on this mighty mekong river up
stream to CaiBe (40km), lunch & relax on board.
Late afternoon arrive in CaiBe floating market town. Disembark our boat, short
walk along canal to our homestay. Time to explore the village and join in
cooking lesson. O/N homestay.
Day 2: CaiBe - CanTho - SaiGon (B,L)
An early start for car drive to CanTho (~1.5 hr),
we take a boat trip to Cai Rang floating
market, and long distance cruise on small canals to PhongDien market. Take in the magnificent scenery and get close to the locals as
they go about their daily routine. We try a xe loi, the local colonial-era cab
pulled by motorbike, on a country road. In the afternoon we head back to
Saigon. Back in Saigon around 18:00. End of tour.

1: SaiGon
- ChauDoc.
Drive
to CaiBe, boat trip visit floating market and cruise over mighty Mekong
river to island, promenade around fruit orchards, boat to VinhLong.
Coach trip to LongXuyen, explore the village making incense
stick before heading onto ChauDoc for the first night.
Day
2: ChauDoc
- CanTho.
Up early for a cruise through the amazing riverside
market with all its bustling activity and smorgasbord of sounds, colours and
smells. We also cruise through the floating village with tons and tons of fish
farmed underneath hundreds of shelters. Discover the ethnic Cham village with
its famous Mubarak Mosque and watch the locals go about their traditional
weaving. After visiting the famous Lady Chua Xu Temple (1820) we walk up the
sacred Sam Mountain with its panoramic view over the vast plains into Cambodia.
After lunch we continue on to CanTho, with a stop at a bird sanctuary, for our
second night.
Day 3:
CanTho - SaiGon.
