Cycling Mekong Delta BenTre 2 days – Bike, cruise, homestay on island.

Day1: SaiGon to CaiBe, VinhLong and to BenTre (Lunch, dinner)
8.00 am our shuttle will take you out of town on an approx. 2hrs drive to Cai Lay where you collect your bicycles and enjoy a leisurely, two-hour bicycle ride on peaceful country lanes and quiet roads that pass through local villages and along canals. This offers you several stops on the route seeing seasonal fruits at the tropical plantations such as rambutan, durian, longan, jackfruit, etc…(and they do taste nicer minutes off the tree!), perhaps watching farmers harvesting peanuts, visiting a coconut candy factory, a puffed rice factory, stopping at a market to buy fruit, etc.. We will have a great photo opportunity at Cai Be Catholic Church, built in 1929-1932, with íts unique steeple atop.
We board our boat for a visit to the floating market and cruise over the Mekong river to Tan Phong island where we have a small sampan paddling on natural waterways, see the tropical gardens on this island, then we keep on to a lunch place. After lunch, we cycling on small paths under the green canopy alongside water, mostly shared with just pedestrians, other local cyclists and scooters, to discover the rambutan and longan gardens around, see daily life of farmers. Ferry crossing to Ngu Hiep island, we keep cycling on this special durian land, just passing Ngu Hiep main market 4k more, we get a ferry crossing to Tam Binh market where have a coffee break. Then we cycle back to orchards again to VinhKim, the area of milk fruit tree (aka. canito fruit). Passing VinhKim market, we continue 4km along RachGam river to the monument of RachGam-XoaiMut victory. Listening to the battle of QuangTrung King against the Siam navy troop in 1785. Then we have 5 km more on main road to Binh Duc where we take a ferry to Thoi Son island. Overnight at a local home stay.
Day 2: BenTre to SaiGon (Breakfast, lunch)
After breakfast, we start cycling on back country roads alongside river, seeing daily life of the locals, feeling lost on winding roads under the green coconut canopy. We also pass Ba Lai river, a smaller branch of Mekong on our way, to visit local workshops making various products from coconut that Ben Tre is famous for, such as coconut candy, coconut pandanus waffle, sponge cake, etc…. Continue our bike ride toward Ham Luong bridge and a few more km to lunch break.
After lunch, take hammock siesta or walking through local village to visit a farmer house breeding fighting cocks.
Want to get back on two wheels again ? Lets go for another 10km more to visit broom making workshop, and a coconut husk peeling workshop.
Alternatively, we can take a boat for short cruise down the quiet HamLuong river branch into a peaceful arroyo, have a rowing boat or paddle your own kayak along this arroyo with green canopy of water coco palms. Cruise back and refresh or get change clothes. Our cycling mekong delta BenTre 2 days end. Our bus picked up and transferred back to Saigon.

Note: You should bring a small overnight bag to the homestay. Heavy suitcase or big backpack can be stored in the van. Our homestay is quite basic place (share bath, no hot water) set up inside a house or at a verandah for cooler air at night. (mekong delta is about 25 to 30 C degree all year round). The homestay owner will serve you a private meal for your comfort.
