Day 1: Saigon – LongAn – MyTho – VinhLong ( Lunch, dinner)
Leaving Saigon, our shuttle will take you for about one hour drive to LongAn, the gateway to the mighty Mekong. First stage 25k from LongAn suburb to MyTho city, we will pass through the green rice paddies and dragon fruit farms. Our guide will show you how farmer set up their dragon farms and taking care of this special cacti tree. We also turn to a small village track to visit a rice noodle workshop in MyPhong commune, see an old way of making noodles of the Chinese community back to 1679. From this noodles, it became a famous noodle soup called “hu tiu”. Let our guide know if you would like to try.
We will break for lunch at a local restaurant in MyTho city.
Following lunch, we travel to Cai Lay where we collect our bicycles and enjoy a leisurely, two-hour afternoon bicycle ride on peaceful country lanes and quiet roads that pass through local villages and along canals. This offers you several stops on the route seeing seasonal fruits at the tropical gardens such as rambutan, durian, longan, jackfruit, etc..(and they do taste fresh, just off the tree!), perhaps watching farmers harvesting beans, stopping at a market to buy fruit, etc…
Arriving in Cai Be, pick up your night backpack, we get on board to cruise over 1.5km-wide Mekong river to BinhHoaPhuoc island. Time to enjoy spectacular sunsets on the Mekong. Dinner and spend the night in an eco guesthouse on island.
(For novice cyclist, there is a shorter cycling route to CaiBe, where we board small sampans and paddle along narrow arroyos (waterways), discover the life on island. Back on our main boat and we cruise to our eco guesthouse on island. However, the possibility of sampan paddling trip depends on the river tide, please discuss with our guide during your lunch time).
It’s good to have a small rucksack/bumbag with really just the absolute minimum in it for a night away on the island- change of underwear, shirt, nylon bag, phone charger, etc.. , as you’ll cycle and boat to the island
Day 2: VinhLong to CanTho. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Following breakfast, under the cool shelter of the green canopy, we take a bike ride for half an hour on small paths, mostly shared with just pedestrians and other local cyclists and scooters, to the ferry crossing for Vinh Long. We then have an extended ride to Can Tho. While our exact route will vary (depending on our group’s cycling abilities), you can expect to pass through villages (with brick kiln and terracotta roofs), past rice fields, and by innumerable rural riverside villages.
We will break for lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, optional transfer to Can Tho or continued biking through the tranquil paths and lush canals of the area, along the scenic, back country roads to Dong Thanh where we see a Khmer pagoda. Late afternoon will be reserved for promenading along the city quay, or more cycling over the suspension bridge to CanTho city. We will stay in Can Tho. (or optional countryside homestay).
Day 3: CanTho to Saigon. (Breakfast, lunch)
After breakfast, we embark on a morning boat trip to explore the vibrant, bustling Cai Rang floating market, one of the last authentic floating markets in Asia swirling with hundreds of boats zig-zagging on the river, and also to experience more cruises along small quiet winding waterways around Can Tho. We have chance to visit a local rice husking mill, or a factory producing vermicelli, etc..
Afterward, we mount our bikes for another two hours pleasant riding under the lush green, jungle canopy in one of the most scenic areas of the Delta, passing through numerous rural villages alongside small canals, greeting locals (many of whom will also be on bicycle). Also pausing at other local markets along the way to watch how the local merchandisers do business.
Following lunch, return to Saigon by our private van. You might want mount your bikes again and savor a final ride? Please discuss with our guide for a route lined with fruit orchards or expansive rice fields on your way back to Saigon.
